Chairing on a winner.

Chairing on a winner.

Have you noticed that it’s getting a little chillier in the mornings just lately? Normally we’d say ‘boo’ to the cold stuff (winter ice and all that). But this year, we’re celebrating. Why? Because of this stupendous young girl.

Say hello to 13-year old Rebecca Clarke. She’s the current British No.1 at junior level. She may hardly ever sit around, but we were so impressed with her dedication and passion that we were delighted to sponsor her for the new season. So, if the last time you watched ice-skating was Torvill and Dean’s Bolreo way back in 1984, get your skates on and get down to watch Rebecca in action.

Here’s her story so far. We'll be posting more over the coming months.

Cool facts

Current ranking
No. 1 in Britain in the Junior Level

First time on the ice
November 2007 after a family day out to Somerset House over Christmas

Training venue
Streatham Ice Rink

How many days a week do you train for?
I train five days a week (before school 4 days a week and then on Sundays)

What time do you start training?
Furthest distance travelled to compete
Dumfries in Scotland

What has been the highlight of your skating career so far?
Winning the British Championships in 2012

Ultimate ambition
To become World and Olympic Champion

So tell us a little bit more about you…
As soon as I stepped out on the ice on that trip to Somerset House I more or less decided that this was the sport for me – I love the elegance and the movement on the ice along with the speed.

And why does our sponsorship mean so much?

Securing sponsorship from a company like Europa is really important because ice dancing is a very expensive sport that doesn't always get recognised.

What is the biggest lesson you have learnt from competing?
Get on the ice and do your best with confidence, and always keep smiling.

Oh and one last thing: her biggest influence on her career? Her Grandma and Grandad who encouraged her to pursue skating. Like us, she’s a family girl at heart.
